Genie Gautier, like Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz, is unwittingly thrust into the burgeoning tornado of the moving picture world. Overseer Thomas Alva Edison, the “Wizard of Menlo Park,” idolized by the masses, strives to monopolize this world with his inventions. From patent wars to criminal acts, the yellow brick road leads to FILMTOWN– Fort Lee, New Jersey. Just outside of New York City, real life scenarios play out against a backdrop of human nature where the seven deadly sins are unleashed with vigor on set and behind the scenes. Not knowing who to really trust, Genie must navigate her destiny through the magic of FILMTOWN.

The storyline– At the end of the 19th century, science and technology profoundly shook and fractured conventions of daily life demanding a new syntax for artistic expression. Alice Guy Blache, a visionary among her contemporaries, boldly steps forward into a man’s world. By 1912 she is a successful business entrepreneur with her Solax studio. Built in Fort Lee, New Jersey, Madame Blache was producing two one-reelers (10-15 minute films) a week and developing a stable of stars, writing and directing at least half of these films and overseeing all production. Bad luck and bad management sent her back to France broke and disillusioned. By 1922, she is all but forgotten as a early cinema pioneer. It’s 1967 and in the Summer of Love, Alice Guy Blache sets out to find her lost films and establish her place in history,

It was one of only 100 short films selected to be screened at the festival. There were 4,500 entries both feature and short. Soul Searching is a short film about a dour by-the-book homicide detective and his energetic new-age partner who are sent to investigate the suspicious suicide of a university professor. It quickly turns into a murder investigation and the detectives each fall in love with a beautiful woman who is a prime suspect in the murder. Walking the thin line between their professional ethics and their desires proves to be difficult for them, especially because everyone seems to have a secret. A sinister man with connections to both women and an undergraduate student with a bad attitude add extra dimensions to the unfolding mystery.
Writer, 12-minute short, Aid Afghanistan (2003) about an organization fighting for the right to educate women in Afghanistan. It was accepted in DC Independent Film Festival (2004)
